Th Proctor Dashboard is a feature used by proctors to monitor student testing. The proctor does not start the test from the proctor dashboard. When instructed by the proctor, students initiate testing by opening ADAM or TestNav (as applicable) on their devices, and entering their credentials.

When proctoring an ADAM test delivered to students using TestNav, most proctor dashboard elements are the same as when delivering a test to students using ADAM Player.

Testing Information

This section includes the test name, administration, proctor group and testing school.

Config Information

This section includes:

  • Test Window - for the overall assessment (the test schedule for your school may be more narrow).
  • Proctor Name - This reflects the latest person to access the dashboard and may be changed.
  • Kiosk Only field – This indicates whether the ADAM Lockdown Browser must be installed on the students’ testing devices. For more information, see the Install and Setup ADAM Lockdown Browser page. This does not apply when students are testing in TestNav.
In the Actions area: 
Test Code 

Provide this code to students so they can sign in to the assessment. This code may already be on their test ticket if the proctor group were created ahead of time. You can select the expand arrows next to the code to view in full screen. Select the minimize arrows (on the expanded test code window) to return to the normal view.

Proctor Password

Other proctors can use the test code and proctor password to simultaneously access the Proctor Dashboard. Students should never have access to the proctor password.

Print Cards 

If printed test tickets are not already provided, select Print Cards to:

  • Print a roster and the test cards to distribute to students.
  • Open (in a second window) to view the test cards for this proctor group.
Seal Code(s)

Some assessments are set up with seal codes. Do not provide seal code to student until you are ready for them to 'unlock' the corresponding section.

Read Aloud (with TestNav)

 A Read Aloud icon appears if at least one student in the group is tagged for Read Aloud. Click icon to view a pop-up screen with access instructions for the person who will perform the Read Aloud. For tests delivered by AD Authoring instead of TestNav, access to ReadAloud is provided per student via the Actions menu, see also: Actions Menu.

Hover over each status to see the number of students represented.

Filter

Click a status to see only students in a specific test status. See also: Proctor Dashboard Statuses

Search

Enter a student name to quickly locate a student.

Refresh the page

Click the Refresh button to reload the page immediately. You can also toggle on Auto Refresh.

Page navigation

If the proctor group is large, you may need to go to the next page to view some students. 

Actions Toolbar

Proctors can use the toolbar at the top of the student sessions list to apply an action to ALL student sessions. Hover over an icon to see its action. The available options depend on site and test configurations.

  • Approve All Sessions – If proctor approval is required for students to enter their test for the first time once they enter credentials, use this button to let in all students.
  • Pause All Sessions – If enabled, proctors can pause all students’ sessions.  The proctor must resume the session for all students to resume testing. This is not available for TestNav.
  • Resume All Sessions – Proctors use this button to resume all students’ sessions, allowing all students with paused tests to continue testing.
  • Release All To Next Section – When tests have a structured stop and release between sections, proctors select this button to allow students to move onto the next section of the test, if applicable.
  • Reseat All – Reseating allows the students to re-enter their test.
  • Move All to Section – See Move to a New Section for detail.
  • Force Submit Session – Users are able to force submit a section for Computer-Adaptive tests (CAT) from the proctor dashboard for students testing with TestNav. For multi-section CAT tests, when a student misses a day of testing, this allows proctors to move the student ahead in the test to begin the new section. This functionality does not apply to linear tests or CAT tests with only one section. A user permission controls access to the action on the proctor dashboard, along with controls for anonymous proctoring. Additionally, the test configuration now includes ‘Allow Section Submit’ option.


Columns in the Student Session List

You can sort on columns with up/down arrows.

Tester

Student name. If the proctor group was not created ahead of time with specific students assigned, no students will appear until they sign into the test.

Identifier

A unique code that identifies each student. 

Orgs

Student's school.

Started Time

The time the student started the session. 

Test Progress
 Visual representation of student progress. Hover over icon to read status. See also: Proctor Dashboard Statuses
Test Status

Test Status tells the proctor if the student is interacting with the test. Your options will vary.

  • Not Started – The student has not signed in to the test. No action is needed by the proctor. Only applies if students were pre-assigned to the proctor group.
  • In Progress – The student has signed in to the test. No action is needed by the proctor.
  • Paused – The proctor or student has paused the session. The student sees the Test Paused message on their screen. There is a time delay of about 30 seconds between pressing the Pause Session button and the student's test actually pausing. The proctor must resume the session before the student is allowed back into the session. This does not apply for TestNav.
  • Submitted – The student has completed the test and submitted their answers.
  • Needs Attention – Student requires action by the proctor, usually to be reseated.
  • Reseated – The student has been reseated.
  • Exited - The student has exited their test without submitting.

Section Progress

 Indicates number of sections completed/number of sections in the test.

Item Progress

The item progression shows which question the student is working on or on which item they exited the test from.

TTS

When toggled ON, the student has access to the text-to-speech (TTS) player while testing. If visible, site settings determine whether or not this can be changed for this session by the proctor.

Proctors can view student accommodations in the Proctor Dashboard by hovering over the accommodations bubble for a student. The number in the bubble indicates the number of accommodations assigned to the student. Proctors can change the Dynamic TTS accommodation from the Proctor Dashboard if available. This is not enabled when students with the TTS accommodation receive a separate form.

Test Duration

For submitted tests, how long the student spent on the test.

Accom (Accommodations)

The number of accommodations a student has appears in this column. You can hover your pointer over the count to see the assigned accommodations.

Code (Accountability Code)

In the Code column, you can view any accountability code applied to the student, such as "ME" for "medically excused." Some users may be able to select Apply to add an accountability code for a student (the ability to edit is rarely enabled on the dashboard). See also: View and Apply Accountability Codes

Actions Menu

After the assessment session has started, a set of buttons appears in the Actions column for each student. Your options will vary. Proctors use these actions to control individual student’s sessions.

  • Pause Session – Proctors can pause an individual student session. The proctor must resume the session (select the button again) for the student to resume testing. This does not apply for TestNav.
  • Reseat Session – Proctors can select this if something interrupts a student's session. This might include a computer issue, session timeout, or an unexpected error. Reseating allows the student to re-enter their test.
  • Submit Session – If available, this should only be used if the student will not do any further testing. There may be a lag between the time a student actually submits their test and when it appears in both the Health and Program columns. Most assessments are set up to automatically submit all students who forgot to do so at the end of the test window.
  • Submit Section – Submit a section of a CAT test for a student testing with TestNav. For multi-section CAT tests, when a student misses a day of testing, this allows proctors to move the student ahead in the test to begin the new section. This functionality does not apply to linear tests or CAT tests with only one section. 
  • Read Aloud – Launch a window for the proctor. (AD Authoring only)
  • Force Exit – If enabled, a proctor can stop a TestNav student test session.  This is not available until the student starts their test.  This option is only available for tests administered in TestNav. 



Proctor Dashboard Statuses 

The ‘Test Progress’ column has three statuses: Not Started, Started, Submitted. Each is represented with a different icon shown left to right in the order a student would move through a test. The ‘Test Status’ column includes an icon and a colored pill with a description of the testing status for each student. Users can hover over the colored pill for additional test status notes, and an icon to represent TestNav status.

  • Test Progress: Not Started, Started, Submitted

  • Test Status: Not Started, Needs Attention, In Progress, Exited, Reseat, Submitted, Paused, Paused by Student, Paused by Proctor, At End of Section

Possible combinations of Test Progress and Test Status:

  • If Test Progress Is Not Started, the possible Test Status values are: Not Started, Needs Attention
  • If Test Progress is Started, the possible Test Status values are: In Progress, Reseat, Exited, Paused, Paused by Student, Paused by Proctor, At End of Section

  • If Test Progress is Submitted, the possible Test Status values are: Submitted
