  • Ability for students to log in using QR codes
    • Ability to print a student QR code from student User Detail page
    • Ability to batch print QR codes from Class Details page
    • Ability to reset/void a student's QR code

Configuring things to get started:

For users with the ability edit authentication providers, the first step is to open the LaunchPad-related authentication provider entry (this named field is configurable so it may not always have the same name.

.

Then, you’ll enable QR Code login, selecting the grade levels that this wil apply to, and the student ID to display on what gets printed. (This will almost always be the Student Identifier).

Once you do this, on the respective LaunchPad client login page, there will now be a new “Student QR Code” login option.

Clicking on the QR Code Sign In button will take the student to this page… where they would hold up their printed QR code to the camera, and it would read it in order to connect them with a student record and log them in.

After that is saved, QR codes for students can be downloaded in one of two ways:

  1. From the class details page, which would show to users who have rights to view classes (they don’t necessarily need access to edit classes, just view). Whether or not a user role can view classes is controlled in Role Permissions settings.
  2. From the student user details page

Reset QR Code – if clicked, will generate a NEW QR code for the kid, in place of the old one. Use this if the kid lost theirs, and there’s a risk that someone else got ahold of it.

Some things worth mentioning:

  • QR code login only works for student user types
  • If a student is in a grade level where QR code login isn’t configured, then their login attempt will not work, even if they had a QR code printed
  • It won’t be possible to print a QR code for a student who is in a grade level where QR code login is not enabled
  • There isn’t a view for teachers today in Launchpad to see their own classes and print QR codes.  Makes sense for us to add that, but it’s in our backlog. For now, a higher level user who is given permission to view Classes can be the one ‘in charge’ of printing QR codes once for the class
  • When generating a class of QR codes, it’ll create nice consolidated grid of student QR codes, about 20 on a single sheet of paper.
  • When generating a single student’s QR code, it is a paper suck. A small 2x2 box on an otherwise blank letter sized sheet of paper
